Bringing Home Your Red Poodle with Confidence
Welcoming a red standard poodle puppy into your home is one of life’s great joys. These intelligent, affectionate dogs thrive in environments where love and structure go hand in hand. At Rosa Red Standard Poodles, we help each new family prepare for a smooth, joyful transition.
Here’s everything you’ll need to get ready — both practically and emotionally — for your new poodle puppy.
Before your puppy comes home, stock up on these essentials:
- Crate (medium to large with adjustable divider)
- Food and water bowls (non-slip, stainless steel)
- High-quality puppy food (ask us for recommendations)
- Collar, leash, and ID tag
- Safe toys for chewing and stimulation
- Puppy shampoo and grooming tools (poodles require coat care!)
- Enzyme cleaner (for potty training accidents)
- Training treats and a basic training book or class enrollment
Standard poodles are smart — and curious. Before your puppy arrives:
- Remove anything chewable (shoes, cords, children's toys)
- Block access to unsafe areas (stairs, balconies, pools)
- Secure trash cans and lower cabinets
- Check your yard for gaps in fencing or poisonous plants
Bonus Tip: Have a designated “puppy zone” with a crate, soft bed, and a few toys.
Your puppy will need patience and structure in their first 7–10 days.
- Start a routine: set feeding, potty, nap, and play times
- Expect extra naps (poodles sleep a lot as puppies!)
- Take potty breaks every 1–2 hours at first
- Offer plenty of calm bonding time — avoid loud guests or travel
We send our puppies home with a blanket and scent from mom or littermates to ease the transition.
At Rosa Red, we begin early socialization and sound desensitization with each puppy. Continuing this at home is key.
- Gently expose your puppy to: doorbells, vacuums, car rides, and new surfaces
- Introduce new people slowly and positively
- Enroll in a puppy class for social learning
Our red poodles are known for their excellent temperaments — but confidence comes from experiences, not just genes.
We’re here to support you long after your puppy goes home. We provide guidance, nutrition plans, and lifelong breeder support.
